Play Summary
Play Synopsis: Trying to get closer while falling apart from each other, they find themselves in a story and a play they thought they were outside of. The story is familiar, the roles are as close as relatives, but is it really the same as what is happening today? This is the question that three female prisoners ask themselves while trying to perform F.G. Lorca’s “The House of Bernarda Alba” in a prison. Should one maintain a predetermined helplessness? Do stories and people not change when circumstances change? They ask themselves this as well. In the story, Adela dies. If this death is a suicide, it seems they have all held onto the thread together. If this suicide is a murder, how should they keep Adela alive? They ask this too. Are these women asking too many questions? This play is adapted from Federico Garcia Lorca’s ‘The House of Bernarda Alba,’ utilizing translations by A. Turan Oflazoğlu, Hale Toledo, and Pınar Savaş.
